McCain has contempt for women’s rights

Now is the time for all good men and women to come to the aid of their country by voting for Obama-Biden.

Consider John McCain’s attitude on equal pay for equal work. Last year the House of Representatives tried to correct a sex discrimination outrage with a bill names in honor of Lily Ledbetter whose employer’s 20 years of pay discrimination was upheld by the Supreme Court. McCain joined the Senate Republicans in a filibuster to kill the bill. Now, if you find that you are being paid less for doing the same tasks as your opposite sex colleagues, and your employer won’t make things right, file your claim promptly because, thanks to Sen. McCain and his cohorts, after 180 days from the day the discrimination began, you are out of luck.

Another salvo in McCain’s war on women is his vow to appoint to the Supreme Court justices who would overturn Roe vs. Wade, thus enabling states to criminalize abortion.

Perhaps if Sen. McCain was serious about reducing the incidence of abortion, he might have favored mandating the inclusion of contraceptives in health insurance coverage. But although some insurance plans include coverage for Viagra, many (most?) do not cover contraception, and McCain has voted at least twice with enough Republicans to beat back Democratic efforts to requires such coverage.

But McCain’s contempt for the rights of women borders on the trivial compared to the attitudes and policies of his Ann-Coulter in Barbie-drag running mate, who considers the only legitimate reason for an abortion is to save the mother’s life. And in a heartwarming display of fiscal prudence, while Sarah Palin was Mayor of Wasilla, the city billed sexual assault victims and/or their insurance companies for the cost of rape kits and forensic examinations.
