McCain has contempt for women’s rights

Now is the time for all good men and women to come to the aid of their country by voting for Obama-Biden.

Consider John McCain’s attitude on equal pay for equal work. Last year the House of Representatives tried to correct a sex discrimination outrage with a bill names in honor of Lily Ledbetter whose employer’s 20 years of pay discrimination was upheld by the Supreme Court. McCain joined the Senate Republicans in a filibuster to kill the bill. Now, if you find that you are being paid less for doing the same tasks as your opposite sex colleagues, and your employer won’t make things right, file your claim promptly because, thanks to Sen. McCain and his cohorts, after 180 days from the day the discrimination began, you are out of luck.

Another salvo in McCain’s war on women is his vow to appoint to the Supreme Court justices who would overturn Roe vs. Wade, thus enabling states to criminalize abortion.

Impeding the Right to Choose: Crisis Pregnancy Centers

From the Abortion Access Project:

With help from both state and federal governments, anti-choice activists have developed another obstacle for women seeking safe, professional abortions: Crisis Pregnancy Centers. Crisis Pregnancy Centers (CPCs) advertise themselves as women’s health clinics in order to attract pregnant women. They deliberately call themselves by misleading names like A Woman’s Concern or The Women’s Resource Center, and list themselves in the phonebook under headings such as ‘Abortion Services’ and ‘Birth-control Information Centers.’ Their propaganda and advertisements contain seemingly neutral statements like “Thinking about Abortion? Call us. Free Pregnancy Test.”

How to locate counseling centers that offer information on ALL of your options

  • Choose well-known, reputable clinics
  • Choose clinics that offer a complete range of contraceptive options
  • Ask over the phone if the clinic provides abortions or abortion referrals; avoid clinics that do not give straightforward answers to your questions
  • Select clinics that have, or are supervised by, physicians, nurse practitioners, or other licensed health practitioners
  • For legitimate abortion referrals, call the National Abortion Federation Hotline: 1-800-772-9100 or Planned Parenthood: 1-800-230-PLAN

From The Abortion Access Project

“Obviously, we’re fighting Satan … “

This from Robert Pearson, the author of the Pearson Foundation manual (“How to Start and Operate Your Own Pro-Life Outreach Crisis Pregnancy Center”).  Following is how he fights Satan, who in this case happens to be a woman who is seeking pregnancy counseling:

A killer, who in this case is the girl who wants to kill her baby, has no right to information that will help her kill her baby.  Therefore, when she calls and says, “Do you do abortions?”, we do not tell her no.

Pearson’s manual further instructs Pro-Life Crisis Pregnancy Center staff:

There is nothing wrong or dishonest if you don’t want to answer a question that may reveal your pro-life position by changing the caller’s train of thought by asking a question in return.

In California, false clinics are required by law to disclose over the telephone to each caller that they do not perform abortions or give abortion referrals, birth control or birth control referrals, or written pregnancy verifications, and further that their counseling is by volunteers and from a Biblical “anti-abortion perspective.”  Not in Montana.

Let’s get a few things straight . . .

There are a lot of misconceptions floating around out there regarding the Obama/Biden campaign and its views regarding women’s reproductive health (among other things, obviously. In case you were curious, Barack Obama was named after his Muslim grandfather and is a practicing Christian). The Obama for America website is very comprehensive when it comes to searching campaign policy (you should check it out), covering everything from taxes and technology to ethics and faith. Straight from the Blueprint for Change, the Obama/Biden campaign will:

Support a Woman’s Right to Choose:

Barack Obama understands that abortion is a divisive issue, and respects those who disagree with him. However, he has been a consistent champion of reproductive choice and will make preserving women’s rights under Roe v. Wade a priority as President. He opposes any constitutional amendment to overturn the Supreme Court’s decision in that case.

Help Americans Learn How to Prevent Unintended Pregnancy:

Barack Obama is an original co-sponsor of legislation to expand access to contraception, health information and preventive services to help reduce unintended pregnancies. Introduced in January 2007, the Prevention First Act will increase funding for family planning and comprehensive sex education that teaches both abstinence and safe sex methods. The Act will also end insurance discrimination against contraception, improve awareness about emergency contraception, and provide compassionate assistance to rape victims.
